盼

"盼"当选台湾年度代表字

this chinese character was named "representative character" for the year in Taiwan. other characters in the running were 惨(miserable) and 闷(can't remember which english word was used). the more positive ones were 爱(love) and 醒(awake). 盼 (say p-ah-n) essentially means hope. it was "chaotic" last year. i think expect listed by google translator is... assertive and aggresive. comes across almost demanding and overly optimistic. but maybe this is how His children should claim His promises. i cannot do it. not just yet. it's a constant struggle in my heart and mind. i do not ask boldly because i don't believe He would give it to me. so i simply stop asking. it's a vicious cycle.

come to think of it, all the characters would've been apt anyway. if it's a bad year, the negative ones would fit right in. ultimately, it's really how we choose to look at the circumstances. i think 盼 cannot have been a better symbol for every year, any month, every day, any given time.
