poles apart

You’re not exactly hurting for adornments. What draws you to a piece of jewelry? Does it have to have a special meaning, or is it just aesthetics?
You know, I think of it like an African tribe, where you have to carry everything with you, and it’s part of you. It’s like, you can go away and live on your jewelry. The noise of my jewelry is very important to me, and feeling rings on my fingers is very sensual. But it’s the same for both my tattoos and my jewelry—I think they have to reflect the person. I love tattoos, but most of the time I see them on people and it’s not their style or their personality. I feel that jewelry has to be your story and represent where you come from. Maybe the story will change, but the emotion has to be in it.

risk management

The older we get, the more we see risk as something that might have a direct effect on us. In our twenties we take extraordinary risks with our lives, our careers, and our finances. Nothing will happen to us. In our thirties, we take fewer financial risks but we still think we are physically bulletproof. By the time we reach our forties (if we haven't taken too big a physical risk and been killed) most of us have a mortgage and our career had become very important, so we take fewer financial and job risks.

#idontgettwitter

"I heard Twitter was a stupid place where people just talked about what they wanted to have for lunch and I said that is where I belong!"

"Can Twitter do anything?
Can Twitter wipe my ass?!
No!
But people can!"

- extracted from here

currently working on a final assignment and it's gotta do with Twitter. if you noticed, i recently jumped onto the Tumblr wagon. i have things to say about that space but i'll just talk about Twitter. why Twitter and not Tumblr? you see, the weird thing was that i've got a few new followers on Twitter, rather than on Tumblr. and i was hardly ever on Twitter. and i hadn't been able to log on at all and i never got to finding out why.

it's all those integration tools that had helped to 'create' my presence on Twitter. so indeed it's the platform to self-promote even if that's the least of my intention, except of course, if i want to reach out to more people to sell my things. if you ask me, i do think it's amazing, but i also find it really scary. yes, no doubt i can block the fella if i suspect something fishy. honestly, though, i think most of the time it's just small businesses who added me based on what i'd blogged. i wonder if i'd get more followers if i posted more sexy or sensual pictures on Tumblr. i think it's highly likely. there's much nudity over there. not the vulgar type, nothing too unusual from what're already posted by some fashion magazines.

anyway, i just might stop Tumblring one day. just like how i imagine i'd just pull out from the other social media sites one day right out of the blue.

p/s: just got another new follower, lol. this time it's a lingerie seller from Santa Monica. note to self: remember to untick the "Send to Twitter" box the next time i post pictures of white negligee.

When Wallpaper Strikes Back

Using pictures of people in this way is a form of wallpaper video. But it's worst than other forms of wallpaper because instead of using generic pictures to illustrate a story, we're using specific pictures. There's no such thing as a "generic" person. Every face has attached to it a real person with a real name and a real address and real rights, who's real likely to hire a real good lawyer to hit you real hard with a real ugly lawsuit. If there's a recognizable face in your video, then that video is specific, not generic-- and some might construe your story to be about that individual. So if you're using a "crowd shot" to illustrate a story about something negative or embarrassing such as STDs, and Ethel Icetea recognizes herself in your video, she isn't going to be happy. If she gets a call from her neighbors kidding her about it, she's going to be less happy. You might then get a call from the law firm of Ketchum and Cheatham that will negatively affect your happiness.

"undetermined"

The fourth most worthless word in television is the word "undetermined" in connection with a bank robbery or other theft. One, it's not conversational. When was the last time you turned to someone and said, "The robber got away with an undetermined amount of cash"?

Two, it's not factual--or at least, it's not always factual--and it leaves the viewer with a false assumption that the amount of money missing will be determined later. Guess what, folks. Often they know exactly how much money the bandit got away with, for the simple reason that he probably has a "bait bag" with a dye bomb inside it and a well-known amount of bait cash. If they don't know, they'll find out very quickly. But believe this: They might never tell you how much cash the bandit got. There's a good reason for this: Revealing the amount of cash the bandit took is the worst form of advertising for the bank. The bandit might have escaped with a nice wad of cash. If the bank reveals the amount, it's essentially throwing out a challenge for other robbers to try to match or surpass the previous robber's haul.

attn

i don't suppose i can get away with this look, right?

a colleague paid me/my hairstyle a compliment again. same term used. she even said she wanted to snap a picture of me/the hair. it was embarrassing. because she said that while we're in the office lift filled with people. was i glad they couldn't really see my face. they probably didn't know i existed until then.

i could talk about this thing called attention. but i'm not sure where/how to start. it's an issue both shallow and deep, i think.

i'm secretly pleased that she's not looking her best here. or maybe this was her best look by far and then i'd have reason to brag that i share something common with her. style g would know what i mean.

colour blocking today? haha. the minty skirt's from a local market in shanghai. there're faint white and navy vertical lines spaced throughout. the short-sleeved outerwear's from an espirit outlet in kuala lumpur. my ex-supervisor's wearing a minty top from warehouse, so you can imagine what people would say when they noticed our clothes. one even said we blended with the toilet doors. lol.

which pair did i wear in the end? maybe i should've worn the ferragamos? which would you wear?

i'm really so very tempted to get those suede ankle boots on ASOS (and they're so sneaky, by posting them after discount codes expired, sheesh), even if i risk looking like a complete copycat. i've been coming across quite a number of blogs that look almost identical in the way the bloggers dress. maybe i'm just always too late to the party, as always.

high maintenance

I love knit, for no specific reason, it is one of my favorite fabrics in the world, the one I've started with, the one I love... That's the way it is.
My clothes and looks are for every women; you have to look at yourself in the mirror and decide what fits you well.
Then, keep this look;
an intelligent image, elegant, maginificent.
Coordinate yourself, your make up and your accessories.

The color skin is also a question of what's in the air, a question of trend, tanned or not, pale or not... The most simple products, that make a natural radiance.
I think they should look at themselves one hour per day in the mirror.
So they know what's good to hide, and what's good to show.

What matters is the allure, the way you walk, and seduction: be elegant, and make you up.
Beauty and fashion are naturally done when you take care of yourself.
Be strong and demanding with yourself and decide to be beautiful!

swan song

^image copied from reebonz^

post has nothing to do with the much-hyped film starring portman and ryder. the other day, me and a coupla of bag fiends (i actually didn't relish being labelled as one; i wasn't even half as obsessed as some on tPF) were wafting in and out of reality and daydream-scape about getting one last bbag. we decided that the style would be a black weekender. then we could look like supermodels (i said this) in our skinny jeans (contributed by the one who's turned a big bag lover thanks to another colleague) and don't forget the vitamin water bottle (this from the colleague who likes big bags)!! lol.

for me, i used to say i'd conclude my bal affair with a black first, which was indeed my first love, or rather  first crush. then i changed my mind along the way and considered the black work. but i already have two works, so the weekender did seem like a good choice. then i asked myself why would i want yet another bbag since i liked variety? anyway, it's just one of those things my small mind entertains once in a while. like, i'd like to own a DSLR cam one day. but then, maybe not, since it's really not so essential that i'd die without one. kwim? besides, i did get myself a SLR vintage cam (or was it two?) and i've long neglected my bbags. i even  toyed with the idea of donating one of the bags to the unifem's give to save...

of course i'm not so noble, lah. don't forget that i'm afflicted with the incurable disease of a hoarder. even if i don't use my bags, i could pass them on to my mother/sil/niece (wow, i can't believe i get to emulate what the celebrities do, lmao!). ok, ok, enough of my bs. the point of this post is that i finally got my dream bag! so this might well be my last luxury bag. yay!

pastiche

Why should she feel so awkward about it? she asked herself. Why was she, an honest person, ashamed to say, "Listen up, folks, I've never read a word of Jane Austen and I don't intend to"? What was wrong with that?

She'd be branded a philistine. Who cared?

These kids would despise her. So what? There wasn't a law, you can't be a decent person, or count yourself as having a brain, unless you've read all the works of Jane Austen. Think of all the people in the world who had never even heard of Jane Austen.

Lucky them.

the f word too

f is for feiyue

^magenta pink leather^

^white and green canvas^
^black eyelet canvas^
^black floral dress^
^grey velvet^
all pictures from GDO's blog. the models they use are always so freaking cute.

i was eyeing the black floral dress during my last visit to the store. then there's this lovely 40s (iirc) linen dress that's just so sweetheart the guru kept telling me i should get it. i didn't because it's just so sweetheart (not me) and it looked suspiciously tiny.

the blue dress looked so like the liz clairborne in my store, minus the peplum. peplum's been back for some time. i think i've never attempted to wear any. i did want to, until i saw the inspired ones sold in every topshop. i love the black one on GDO's blog. but that's just cos it looked so good on the model.

GDO featured every pair of the feiyue sneakers except the white and orange pair, which is really the more vintage-looking, other than the white and green pair. i also kinda prefer the eyelet pair in white on feiyue's site.

did you notice that we all seemed to want to be... birds? it reminded me of the LOTR quiz i took on FB recently. i didn't usually wanna participate in such quizzes but i was curious about the LOTR character that my colleague was. turned out i was also the same character (samwise gamgee). so i asked her how she answered some of the questions. and surprise surprise (or the opposite): we chose very different answers. it was hilarious. i asked her for the answers she gave for how she'd prefer to die and which superpower she'd like to be equipped with. i chose to die starving. she said that's the last thing she could do to herself, hahahaha. she loved food too much so she chose to die drowning which to her should be less painful. for superpower, i chose the ability to fly (see?) while she chose invisibility. i then offered that maybe the entire answer hinged on the last question: which animal did we see ourselves as? no prize for guessing which animal we chose. samwise gamgee's kind and loyal. yes, we chose the dog. i was considering the eagle (since i wished i could fly). maybe when i'm really bored to my hair roots i'd attempt the quiz again and see if choosing a different animal would change everything.

纸包裤?

 lollyrouge

yes. i did it. i've finally succumbed to the blogshop phenomenon. the horrors! :P
i figured the price was decent for a pair of pants. they also didn't look very 'trademark' but generic. the standard problems of online shopping would be the fit and quality. they haven't reached me yet. i'll let you know what happens later.
anyway, i found out that i already bought something that one or more blogshops could be selling, except that the seller added a twist to the original garment. i thought that's rather clever.
