rise to the ocassion

i still can't seem to insert images directly using blogger.

anyway, a colleague sent me the link to this shop. she said the clothes reminded her alot of me. it's easy to see why. lol. but i'm not sure if i should be flattered or not...
80s vintage mid-rise pants

it's my usual dilemma about wearing vintage clothes, you see. if you're brutally honest about it, do you think the vintage clothes on the model are flattering? even if the clothes were altered to fit her, do you seriously think one should even consider wearing these clothes, no matter the age of the wearer? (some of the clothes didn't look very granny -- they're mostly sold already) does she not look better in the modern clothes?

perhaps, the only people who should experiment with granny clothes are the likes of Tavi. never mind that she looks like the little old lady who lived in a shoe. drollgirl's "Is This Really Necessary?" tag is so bingo in the context of this subject, don't you think? lol.

these orange pants remind me of a pair of pants i got recently for ten bucks. the cut's almost quite similar. they wear quite low on my waist so they look like drop-crotch pants. i suppose they'd look like high-waisted or high-rise pants if i cinched them up with a belt. i love it when i don't have to fork out a crazy amount  of money for things vintage g.

although the model looks quite weird in some of the granny clothes, i really like the way her headpieces are styled. hair accessorising is one area i've been wanting to experiment but it's also something i doubt would work. for one obvious reason. the weather's a given discourager. i've imagined i could use a scarf for bad hair days if i should chop off my locks someday. but can i get past the feeling of all eyes on my headpiece? if i wore shades, wouldn't i look more obvious? there you go.

I think with the right body, most things look good, but I also think that in an editorial setting, things look even better. Taking it out on the streets is a different story. I kinda look the model's look, but she wouldn't get away with that in Paris... (Barcelona would work though).

my opinion on some vintage items change over time.. there are a few pieces that I loved to death a year ago - and right now I think they're too weird for words, too old-fashioned. I agree with Haute World that the setting might have to do with it as well - in my little town it is weird to wear vintage!! (but I still do so haha)

You are a vintage gal, and I love that about you. Follow your likes, covetings and passions - granny-like or not!
