"As far as the surface is concerned – oil on canvas, conventionally applied – my pictures have little to do with the original photograph. They are totally painting (whatever that may mean). On the other hand, they are so like the photograph that the thing that distinguished the photograph from all other pictures remains intact."

sometimes i really wished i'd pursued the arts route. i'm not super talented but i think i at least have that much interest? but i think i'll also feel very inadequate if i compare myself to others, and then before long, i'll give it up.

I think every person has an artistic side. I excelled at arts in school, but I know it's not something I could do all the time. You should probaby join art classes - I know a lot of people who sign up and love it.
hmmm. very interesting.
when i told my parents i was going to be an art major, they looked VERY WORRIED. with reason! they did not try to dissuade me, but they warned me that the path of an artist is a very difficult one. they were right, and i abandoned the notion of being an artist after college. you have to really really REALLY want it, and have a whole lot of talent, luck, great representation and timing on your side. it is not easy. but that can be said about much in life.
sorry for the long comment!
