"You have to know yourself before putting anything on." - Lou Doillon

via stylecaster

although the stylecaster article's about makeup, i think it's applicable to just about everything else concerning fashion and whatever that's associated with fashion. pardon my inability to be more succint. i don't even know if "fashion" should be the term used here. read this extract for yourself:

"You have to know yourself before putting anything on," Lou Doillon was once quoted. It's a no brainer but the ultimate cool girl has a point. Not a traditional beauty, Lou accepted herself and gave herself the ultimate edge- self confidence. There's no point in trying to rock out a shocking red lipstick, when in the back of your mind, you're kind of doubting yourself and wondering if leaving home like that was a bad idea. If you love it, it shows, as well as if you're constantly worried about it, that will be obvious too.

it's definitely the case for me when it comes to whatever i put on my body. even if people tell me i can rock a certain look, i usually can't get past myself. when i did manage to, you can be sure that'll likely be my first and last time. i nearly hurt myself with this getup. you see why i titled the post as such. you see why i'm letting go of the not-me shoes.

So, so true. But we can also work ourselves into being comfortable...baby steps and all that!

Lou Dillon is right - it's all about feeling comfortable and confident with what you're wearing. If you're lacking in these aspects, it will show. A little attitude goes a long way and you won't succeed if an outfit wears you instead of the other way round. Most style icons aren't necessarily famous for what they wear but how they're weairng it. I think most people who would choose to copy an outfit worn by the Olsen twins would probalby fail miserably.

so true! if a million people love what you are wearing or how you look, it doesn't really matter ALL that much if you don't. it is all so tricky!
