… Writers are a very rare breed. That's what thousands of job-hunters have told me, over the years. And for years I kind of believed them – until “blogging” came along. (“Blog” is shorthand, of course, for “web log.”) At the moment (4/8/07) there are at least 70 million people who have created their own personal blogs, on the internet, with 1.4 million updates to those blogs each day, and 120,000 new people starting to keep a blog every 24 hours.[1] Yikes! Let's face it: we human beings are “a writing people,” and we only need a topic we have a real passion for, or interest in, for the writing genie to spring forth from within each of us, pen or keyboard in hand.[2]

2. Though, with the rise of Twitter, and “twittering” – a kind of mini-blog restricted to just 140 characters or spaces – plus the more ancient IM (Instant Messaging), it could be argued that we like our writing to be brief, rather than lengthy (see www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17888481/site/newsweek/).

the newsweek link no longer works. i was thinking of selling the book. i've had it for a while already yet i haven't really read it. Bolles is quite a joker. i think i shall keep the book for now. i should get my brother to read it. he's been in the pits about his job.
if i'm born to write, why's it so hard to do my assignments!!! when i need to be lengthy, i can't find the words. when i need to be brief, i have verbal diarrhea.

I know exactly what you mean about it being hard to do assignments. I guess that's the way of the world...
the whole blogging thing is amazing. so many blogs! so many folks trying to communicate in one fashion or another.
i am not so comfortable with the writing thing. i just do a bit here or a bit there, and rely on pictures more than words. i know that isn't the "right" way to blog, but writing really isn't my biggest strength.
i have also heard that an astonishing number of blogs are abandoned on a daily basis, but i don't know the actual number. i think that speaks to a lack of commitment, or a rush to find the next thing, which reflects a lot about our society today.
Wow, I really enjoyed reading these facts. I've been blogging for over 5 years. I love to write! This is my first public blog with actual readers but before that, I blogged privately for a small audience of people. Blogging has really become a big thing but personally for myself, it's been great because it allows me to write and share my thoughts with others.
Great post.
