我从山中来 带着兰花草
种在小园中 希望花开早
一日看三回 看得花时过
兰花却依然 苞也无一个

today's lesson: save the cheongsam for chinese new year or wedding functions. else you have to brave incessant questions and stereotype perceptions. wearing glasses sure helped fuel the typecasting. actually, i already knew when i decided to wear it to work. no, it's not that i wanted the attention. i was rummaging thru the mess in my room last night. i unearthed a few surprises (and thankfully purged out some stuff along the way). i got this Shanghai Tang silk number from Swirl's last charity sale. i didn't see the stains until i got back to the office and a colleague spotted them. they're really not that noticeable. i think it's a little shabby if you look at it closer (or maybe i'm completely blind and clueless). the mandarin collar and hem are subtly beaded. so i thought why not wear it today. i could hide the stains with a vest or something; the dress won't look too dressy then. don't you love that beige vest-cum-shawl thingie? it's been freezing cold in the mornings. i wonder how more typical i'd look if i wore socks and school shoes. i almost tied plaits in my hair. lol. it seemed really contrived but i swear it's not. if i'd chopped off my hair, would it have been less obvious? i'm sure someone could think of something else to say. i wasn't offended at all. i should be flattered anyone would take notice. i got "很nice" and "cute". all i was missing was a hat so i'd look like a vietnamese girl, so said a colleague to finish the work day. one of them actually sang that 兰花草song when i joked about my look at the start of the day. we're so in sync. lol.

Yay beautiful! You look adorable! I'm half chinese so I quite familiar with chinese celebrations :)
It's been too long not coming here, how I miss our talks! How are you? Hope you're doing great there... By the way, there's a very stupid question I have : what's your real name is? I'm curious :)
Hello Miss Tom Tuttle from Tacoma!
Hello little Teddy Toh!
The open spaces of your shawl looks great and it seems to be so versatile to wear and cozy for colder mornings or colder evenings!!
Have a wonderful rest of the week, you 2!!!
And enjoy the first sunday in advent weekend!!!
Great dress, but I find cheongsams tricky to pull off unless you have a formal occasion to wear them. It's the equivalent of walking around in an evening dress in broad daylight in Europe. You might get more use out of it, if you wore it in a non-Chinese speaking country where it's less common. I know Shanghai Tang tried to spice up the old traditional looks with their neon hues, but I have yet to have seen anyone in Hong Kong (my hometown) run around in one of these things during the day.
Very nice scarf :)
